Simultaneous interpretation

Simultaneous interpretation is a highly complex process which involves listening, comprehending and translating the message in the target-language as quickly as the interpreter can formulate it from the source language, while the source-language speaker continuously speaks.

It involves interpretation equipment that allows the interpreter to render the message in the target language via headphones, whilst the speaker continues to speak in the source language. This mode of interpretation is perfect for conferences, round-table discussions and international events and ensures seamless communication between those who do not share a common language.
Also, this type of interpretation demands extreme concentration therefore requiring a team of two interpreters per language.
This is ideal for conferences of any size or for presentations that convey a lot of information.
The simultaneous interpretation is “continuous”.

Consecutive interpreting

In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter speaks after the source-language speaker has finished speaking (usually every 1-5 minutes). The speech is divided into segments, and the interpreter sits or stands beside the source-language speaker, listening and taking notes as the speaker progresses through the message.” Since the interpreter waits for the speaker to finish a sentence or a thought before translating the speaker’s words into the target language, this type of interpretation takes time. Since the interpreter waits for the speaker to finish a sentence or a thought before translating the speaker’s words into the target language, this type of interpretation takes time.

When the speaker pauses or finishes speaking, the interpreter then renders a portion of the message or the entire message in the target language.

This type of interpreting is usually employed in smaller business meetings, court hearings, interviews, press conferences, any one-to-one meetings or in phone interpretation.
